Why am I reading A.I. prose that you didn’t bother writing? Feels disrespectful to me lol

Luan Doan's avatar

Appreciate you sharing your take, Jacob. In this case, I’m using AI to get more mileage out of articles I’ve already put serious time and effort into. My thinking is: if AI can do something as well as (or better than) me in less time, I’ll use it, so I can spend that time on more valuable or meaningful work. It’s about working smarter, not skipping the work.

Karen Michaels 🦋's avatar

I feel this way too. I’m glad to see how you are using it. Very helpful.

The Artistic Rebel's avatar

No. It’s about creating garbage to promote yourself.

It’s new age SPAM.

It’s not smart.

TheSeniorTechie's avatar

I wish there were an “unlike” button I could push.

Mike LeBlanc's avatar

Or it is smart and you don't want a force multiplier, or are jelly?

The Artistic Rebel's avatar

I use AI daily. But I use it to engage my brain more. This is garbage, unless, and self serving!

Alexandra Jackson's avatar

Because you chose to keep reading 👀

TheSeniorTechie's avatar

Why don’t you look to see if the content has value before you do the whole “anti-ai” routine? I did. It does. I subscribed.

Jacob Bartlett's avatar

For the same reason I don't like people Googling stuff and then sending me the thing they Googled. Because it's shit I could just do myself

TheSeniorTechie's avatar

But you didn’t or they wouldn’t have tried to help you by sending it.

Don’t be a, well, you know.

Andrew Knapp's avatar

Yep. Generally people who use AI and not labeling it AI are abusing trust and wasting time. Disrespectful is the right word :(

Michele Price's avatar

Where is it not labeled AI? It’s in the direct title.

We could also say being intellectually dishonest to make a point is disrespectful.

Mike LeBlanc's avatar

Or you don't want to save time and use tools. Do you use grammerly or spell check? Did you label it? Geez!

The Artistic Rebel's avatar

You sound like a broken record. Save time? Really? Did you personally write these comments because you have so much time in your life because of AI?

Thanks for sharing your prompts. I definitely have been in that situation of having dozens of ideas when I talk to clients, but then blank screen when I sit down to come up with ideas for short form like Notes. One other way I'm exploring to get around this is dumping all the transcripts of my coaching calls into Google Notebook LM and then having it help surface my ideas and insights.

Luan Doan's avatar

That’s a great idea, those transcripts are a goldmine for content. Thanks for sharing this

Just tested your prompt for generating 30 notes out of a post. This is really great, Luan! I write on similar topics, would love to connect and exchange ideas :)

Luan Doan's avatar

Thank you so much! I’d love to connect as well, it’s always exciting to meet others exploring similar topics.

H/T to @Karo (Product with Attitude) for dropping this in my feed…

Sara Adrien's avatar

Can you schedule the notes anywhere?

Luan Doan's avatar

Substack doesn’t support scheduling Notes yet, but I’ve built a app that works for me. It’s not quite polished enough to share publicly, but if there’s interest, I might open it later

Add me to your list

Life v5.0's avatar

Yup. Add me to your list for that too. Would be incredibly useful.

Nat Sang's avatar

There is a reason they don’t do that. The point about notes is it should generate interaction, real human connection. What you’re doing is not helping the cause, it’s destroying what Substack is supposed to do. If anyone struggles to write one sentence a day, then they don’t belong here.

Daniel Harper's avatar

I’d also like to know if you can do this

Luan Doan's avatar

I’ve developed a small application to help schedule Substack Notes, but it’s not complete enough to be widely released.

Daniel Harper's avatar

ahhh okay, I thought that was the case as I've seen others take that approach - I think for now it will just be a matter of logging on & dropping some game for me haha

This article was so helpful! I tweaked your prompt a little to fit my audience and style, then I entered it into one of my custom GPT's and I was blown away! Two more adjustments and I am set. Thank you Luan, if this is any indication of the quality of your other articles, I'm hooked. ☺️

Do you happen to have something that will help me schedule my notes? I do want to be consistent but sometimes I have other things going on in life.

I have all my notes written in one place - ready to post but I’d like to schedule it

Hi, you can check out this post: https://soloailab.substack.com/p/i-set-up-mcp-to-schedule-my-substack-notes

Or you can check out Finn Tropy for an extension that can help with scheduling and publishing Notes.
